Open session on data ethics and child visibility
Ethical standards for visibility indicators
An open session brought together data practitioners and child-rights advocates to examine ethical standards for collecting and publishing child visibility indicators. The discussion balanced the need for actionable system metrics with duties of care around privacy and stigma.
Participants reviewed principles for aggregation, suppression of small counts, and responsible communication of scores to the public. Case examples showed how poorly framed publication can harm communities even when individual identifiers are removed.
Insights from the session will inform an ethics annex to the Initiative’s methodology materials and shape facilitation notes for future partner workshops.
